CEBU CITY (March 19, 2024) – Motorists and commuters who plan to travel to and from the city’s uptown on Good Friday are urged to plan their trips early.

The Road Management Authority (formerly the Cebu City Transportation Office) bared traffic along V. Rama Ave. from San Nicolas Parish Chuch to Barangay Guadalupe will be slightly affected to make way for the Buhing Kalbaryo, the city’s yearly presentation of Jesus Christ’s passion and death.

But Manuel Tagaan, RMA’s sectoral over-all supervisor, assured that the temporary road closures are expected to start at around 9 a.m. until about 4 p.m. on Good Friday, March 29, 2024.

He assured that RMA will only implement short road closures during the activity.

Kung kinahanglan i-close off, temporary ra, igo ra makaagi ang mga niapil. Mao ni’y gibuhat nato sa last Buhing Kalbaryo,” Tagaan said during RMA’s Traffic Hour program over Sugboanon Channel.

Tagaan said the participants will assemble at San Nicolas Proper.

Once the activity starts, RMA will temporary close off Lakandula and JM Basa Sts. to make way for the participants.

Participants of the Buhing Kalbaryo will stop at Stations of the Cross along the route to act out scenes of Christ’s passion.

Tagaan said RMA will stop traffic at the area when a scene is played and will open it back once the participants have moved on to the next station.

The Buhing Kalbaryo will end at the Espina Compound in Barangay Guadalupe.

The yearly Lenten activity is the brainchild of Mayor Mike Rama, who started the tradition in 1997. | PPRMN / jkv
