CEBU CITY (May 14, 2024) – Barangays in the city’s North District have committed to clean its drainage systems before the start of the rainy season.

The Task Force Gubat sa Baha (TFGsB) met with village chiefs of the city’s North District in a convergence meeting today to discuss how they can combat flooding in their barangays especially that the rainy season draws near.
Retired Gen. Aderson Comar, TFGsB river commander for the North District, said he has asked the barangays’ cooperation to clean their drainage systems while the summer season is still ongoing.
“Mora’g lisud karon ang sitwasyon so we need your cooperation sa drainage lang sa inyohang area. Asa tong inyong identified nga mo-clogged-up ang drainage, kato lang say i-priority,” Comar said.
The TFGsB invited barangays situated in the North District’s rivers namely the Estero de Parian, Lahug River, Mahiga River, and Butuanon River.
The captains who attended the meeting were Yody Sanchez of Busay, Nilo dela Cerna of Lorega San Miguel, Virgi Abenoja of San Roque, David Agravante of Zapatera, and Pedro Damaolao of Agsungot.
Also present were barangay councilors from Sto. Niño, Parian, Tinago, Tejero, T. Padilla, Carreta, Hipodromo, Kamputhaw, Lorega San Miguel, Lahug, Apas, Banilad, Kasambagan, Mabolo, San Jose, Bacayan, Binaliw, Pulangbato, Budlaan, and Talamban.

The officials of the mentioned barangays also expressed their support for the TFGsB’s campaign and efforts to address the city’s perennial flood issues.
Also speaking at the gathering were lawyer Butch Librando, the head of TFGsB’s legal section, and Engr. Charles Villagonzalo, the task force’s operations officer.
