CEBU CITY (Jan. 9, 2023)City market operations generated P1.6 million more in 2023 compared to 2022.

Robert L. Barquilla, head of the Office of City Markets (OCM), said the city earned P139.55 million last year, compared to P137.96 million in 2022.

During OCM’s Bantay Merkado teleradyo program over Sugboanon last Jan. 4, his assistant for operations Arnel Quijano said OCM expected it would exceed its 2022 year-round income.

Kung makuha nato ang whole kolekta sa tibuok tuig (including December 2023) mulapas ta, mas mudako ta kompara sa 2022,” he said.

Barquilla told Cebu City News today the three units at Cebu Carbon Market generated the most revenues at P41.8 million, followed by Pasil Fish Market at P31.4 million.

However, collections from Unit II dropped by P2.7 million down from P13.8 million to P11 .1 million, a summary he shared indicated.

With the budget reduction for this year 2024, Quijano said he is confident OCM will not be affected since it is an income-generating office.

Ang Market is self-liquidating. (What we generate) will be used sa among kaugalingong budget, wala mi nagsalig sa general funds,” he said.

Through public-private partnership (PPP), OCM managed to renovate the Pardo public market, and replaced the tiles at Carbon Market Unit 1.

Natuman pinaagi sa PPP sa pagpa-repair sa Pardo public market,” Quijano said.

At Pasil Fishport, Quijano said OCM supports the intent of Mayor Mike Rama to convert it into a better, cleaner, and healthier environment for the public.

Gipang-meeting dayon ang different offices and departments nga mahimong ma-involved sa pagpangindot ug pagpahapsay sa Pasil fishport, gipatawag ang taga-Engineering, DPS, Disaster, PROBE, and Market,” he said.
