CEBU CITY (Nov. 30, 2023, Updated) – “Where are the stolen jewelry?”
Mayor Mike Rama raised the question after local police arrested the suspects, including the alleged mastermind, behind the robbery of the Oro Sugbo Pawnshop and Jewelry Store in Colon Street last Saturday.
The mayor raised the matter during his “Ingna’ng Mayor” teleradyo program aired on the Sugboanon Channel today.
Though he is pleased that the police have apprehended the suspects, the mayor urged them to ensure that their case against those involved is airtight.

“Nagpasalamat ta that there is a breakthrough. But as a lawyer, kinahanglan that the case will stand the test of judicial scrutiny,” Rama told Ingna’ng Mayor anchor Vilma Andales.
He said that since the police already arrested the alleged mastermind, they should also know the whereabouts of the stolen jewelry.
“Asa naman ang jewelry? They have to recover it since those items are considered as “corpus delicti” or the body of the crime,” Rama said.
“We have to build the case so that those who are responsible will be imprisoned,” he added.

Rama ordered the Cebu City Police Office during a virtual command conference over the weekend to apprehend the robbery suspects and solve two other high-profile cases as soon as possible in order to restore the public’s confidence.
The mayor also apologized to his constituents over the spate of incidents, vowing to implement measures to improve the city’s security measures.
He also called on establishments to boost their security capabilities especially that criminal elements are expected to take advantage of the Christmas, New Year and Sinulog season. | PPRMN / jkv
