CEBU CITY (Sept. 4, 2023) – Fish vendors doing business at the “Bagsakan” or temporary fish market at the South Road Properties will soon be transferred to their permanent home.

City market officials announced they are set to transfer the vendors to the new Cebu City Fish Market in Barangay Suba (formerly the old Pasil Fish Port) by October this year.

City Market administrator Robert Barquilla and members of his team visited the site of the new Cebu City Fish Market on Friday, Sept. 1, to check on the construction work there.

Barquilla told Cebu City News that he was instructed by Mayor Mike Rama to transfer the vendors from the Bagsakan to the new fish market “as soon as possible.”

He said the new fish market still needs some minor improvements before it can start operations again.

“Pero nakita nako sa Pasil naa pa tay gamayng tiwasonon pareha sa dalan. Ang dalan ngadto sa may Belgium St. nag sige pa og bakbak sa dalan unya of course i-concrete pa na siya. Siguro inig human ana og concrete sa dalan pwede na nato ibalhin ang bagsakan to Pasil Fish Port,” Barquilla added.

Part of their preparations involved constructing concrete platforms and performing minor renovations in the area.

“Kung wala lang na gitrabaho ang dalan karon pwede next week pero naa may dalan ga concreting mana sila so akong estimate ana mga October puhon. Kay naa manay mga curing period ang pag concrete so hopefully by last week sa October, mabalhin gyud nato ang kadtong Bagsakan ngadto na sa Pasil Fish Port,” Barquilla added.

Based on the city market’s data, around 20 stall holders will be relocating to the new fish market.

Barquilla assured that the new fish market will be clean, orderly, and conducive to business, following Rama’s directive. | NJY
