CEBU CITY (Dec. 30, 2022) — The Cebu City Government, through the Barangay Affairs Office (BAO), handed today millions worth of financial assistance to another 31 of the city’s 80 barangays for their own respective projects.

Mayor Mike Rama led the turnover ceremony for the checks at the City Hall Community Hall located at the 9th floor of the Executive Building.

The first batch of 31 barangays received their own checks from the City Government last Dec. 23.

Though it is the end of the year already, the mayor assured that the remaining 18 barangays will receive financial aid from the City, including those who were vocal against his administration.

“Amo gyud ning gihatag because I don’t want you to feel that I take sides based on your political affiliation. Wa ta ana diri, tarong nga serbisyo lang,” Mayor Rama said.

BAO Head Amilo Lopez said the 18 barangays will receive theirs next year because they failed to comply with all the requirements.

He said that although BAO already provided guidelines to the barangay officials on how to prepare the documents for them to receive the financial assistance, there were still those who failed to submit them on time.

He encouraged them to be more diligent in complying with the requirements since all 80 barangays are entitled to receive financial assistance.

Lopez said that with the assistance from the City, the barangays are able to provide government services more efficiently and help address their particular concerns, as the amount is based on each of the barangays’ project proposals.

Mayor Rama again requested the barangay captains to support his vision for a Singapore-like Cebu City by cooperating in implementing the programs and initiatives of the City Government.

“I only wish nothing but the best for our people, maong tabangi intawn ko ninyong tanan ug magtinabangay ta,” he said.  #
