CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama assured job order (JO) employees at City Hall that they will also receive cash bonuses before Christmas.

However, Rama said that the exact amount they will be giving to the city’s 2,200 JO employees has yet to be determined.

During the commemoration of national hero Andres Bonifacio’s 159th birth anniversary at the Plaza Independencia on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, Rama said that some JOs are anxious about not receiving any bonus before the Yuletide holiday.

“Naa dayon mangluod nako dira nga job order… unsa man atoang ihatag sa job order? Sa tinuod, naa sad,” said Rama.

(There will be job order employees who would be sulking. What can we give to our job order employees? Honestly, we have something in store for them.)

Rama also announced that as the president of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), he will also be writing a letter to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the latter to issue a directive for a uniform incentive fort all JO employees in the country.

Rama also announced last October that regular and casual employees will be receiving a Christmas bonus ranging from P17,000 to P20,000.

As of Sept. 30, there are around 2,200 JO employees in the City Hall, while there are 3,433 casual employees, and 1,367 regular employees.

According to Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular 4, contractual or job order employment status is issued to a person who shall undertake a specific work or job for a limited period not to exceed one year.

Casual employment, on the other hand, is issued only for essential and necessary services where there are not enough regular staff to meet the demands of the service.

Last 2021, Rama initially announced that JO employees will be given a Christmas bonus worth P3,000 but the mayor later on doubled the amount after learning of the disparity between the bonuses of regular employees and JO employees.

The JOs were able to bring home P6,000 and one sack of rice last year. #
