CITY HALL, Cebu City (Nov. 28, 2022) — Romanian Ambassador to the Philippines Raduta Dana Matache paid a courtesy call to Mayor Michael L. Rama today to strengthen ties.

In particular, she said her country could provide development aid to the Philippines and help eradicate poverty.

“You have an advantage because lately, the last six years, a lot of Filipinos were employed in Romania…(as) translators, English teachers, and domestic helpers,” she said. She clarified that being a domestic helper is viewed highly as a dignified job in her country.

She told the mayor that businessmen from Romania are “planning to visit Manila, Philippines for a business mission”.

“But if there is another destination, it should properly be in Cebu,” Matache said. In response, the mayor said it should instead be “in Cebu first then the next will be Manila”.

Her husband Constantine and Honorary Consul of Romania Grand T. Benedicto and his wife Genevieve accompanied Ambassador Matache during the visit. #
