CEBU CITY (November 22, 2022) —More direct flights from Japan to Cebu to reduce inconvenience to tourists.

Acting Mayor Raymond Alvin N. Garcia expressed this desire during a courtesy call by Japanese students at his office today.

During their quick talk, Acting Mayor Garcia said that more direct flights would also increase tourism activities in both areas.

“Because we are aiming for tourism activities, it would also be nice if there are direct flights from Narita and Osaka to Cebu,” he said.

“Because of the pandemic, they were reduced until they were no longer offered,” Garcia said.

Currently, flights to Japan from Cebu would have a layover of at least one to three hours in Manila. This poses inconvenience as passengers would need to disembark from the plane and wait for hours before finally arriving in Cebu.

However, with the easing of travel restrictions and countries slowly regaining normalcy, Acting Mayor Garcia hopes airline companies would bring direct flights back to drive more tourism activities.

“Slowly lang and I hope we can have them back so that you all can frequently visit Cebu,” he said.

The visitors were led by Kenji Nakada from the University’s Department of Business Administration.

He and the Japanese students came to Cebu to study English and at the same time observe the city’s business development following the global pandemic.

The group arrived last week and will head back to Japan tomorrow.

“I wish you could stay longer but I hope you had a wonderful stay here in Cebu,” the acting mayor said. #
